A personal trainer

I may be getting a personal trainer...more on this later.

Watch for future bitch session about how sore my booty is...why are you looking at this blog again?
No really, I hope that he can help me to be a better runner...oh, right and look good all over too.

The running is fine. I'm really ready for better weather. Our family runs are few and far between. It is a little too cold for little bit in the stroller. The treadmill runs are getting to me.

Jason did go 10 miles one day with the stroller. Lil' J took his nap on the road. He seems to be getting into the running a little more.

Eat my words

I'm going to eat my words...
My treadmill runs have been fun this week. I know. I know. I hate the treadmill, but...not so much this week.

I've tried to go as fast I can for 20 minutes, so I can workout a muscle group within my 1 hour lunch break. Hey, the workouts aren't that bad.

I pretty sure Tom Waits helps me go faster. I have a strange girl crush on him.

This cracked me up

http://simplygluten-free.blogspot.com/

Back on track

So this week, Jason and I worked out together at this posh new gym. We did legs. I'll say it again. We did legs. My ass is sore. I haven't done a great leg workout in months. I didn't want to mess with my runs. I slowed down on my runs this week, so we did legs (third time).

After my workout, I have not been able to much without discomfort, like even sit at my desk. But I missed doing legs. It is a nice feeling, and in the end it will make me run faster. Right? It better!

After Thanksgiving (two of them), homemade cupcakes, Jason shopping without self-control, and a "few" beers, I can't wait to get back on the road for a good run.

Do my legs still hurt? yep.
Will it feel better when I run? yep.

Race day recap

The night before I pick up my packet for the race.
I crack up (because I'm still inmature) that this is my race number...

So the race was to empower girls...sounds like a good cause.
What I didn't know is that I would be running with 7 year old children that would
stop to tie their shoes and still end up in front of me...I crack up more.
It wasn't that empowering for an old girl!

I ran it in about 10 minute miles...whatever. Race crit: I came out too fast and burned out too soon.
And note to self: atleast drive the race route before you run another.
There was this huge hill at the very end of the race! Didn't plan on that one!
All in all it was really fun!

While I was huffing and puffing on the run, these two sweet boys were getting all the free stuff (that I'm pretty sure was for the runners) ...I crack up.
No joke they had a ton of food-mostly from Kashi
Thanks to Kashi Key-Key and Bo will now be able to live a few weeks on healthy snacks.

It is turkey day and this mostly vegan ate some meat. Now I'm off to run if off. Good times!

Gonna run a 5K

I'm going to run a 5K this weekend...I think. This on top of hosting a dinner party, attending a child's birthday party, spending time with my mom, sending off my Mother-in-law to CA, and getting lil J down for a nap hopefully two...Like I said, I think I'll run a 5K this weekend.

Just so you know one of my besties, Jessica, made me feel so good the other day...
She says to me, "You look so skinny." Well that's all I can remember that she said...

Wish me luck! Back to my 2.5 mile truck tomorrow! I may try to a little longer...

5 during lunch

I ran 5 miles during my lunch hour! I did it in about 10 minutes miles. Pretty good, since I climbed those nasty hills on campus- Maple St., Statium Dr., and even Duncan near the new parking deck. Yep, I feel like a badass!

I miss my runs

I am sick. I haven't ran. I did get in 11.5 miles last week. I'll try for half this week.
I'm down another 4 pounds! Yippee.

Fuel

We eat mostly veggies, rarely meat, some whole wheat breads, and that is about it. We became vegetarians before our son was born. Once he was born, we quickly found out he couldn't have dairy products (not even a pat of butter in our veggies). At the same time Jason began reading The China Study.  A great read about how much healthier you can be with a vegan diet based on some really good research.

We quickly became the vegan eating Jones family. I would like to tell you it wasn't hard, but it was. I was a nursing mother. We worked out a lot at the time. And damn I was hungry. People would ask, "What do you eat?" We ate a lot, it was a lot of good food.

We have added a little bit of cheese in our diet. Jaysop enjoys pizza with a little cheese. He seems to have grown out of his severe intolerance. But pretty much we like our diet now. Food taste better!

Here are some meals I have prepared for our workout fuel:

This summer we made a lot of pesto.
I swear it is just as good without cheese. I like to add a little green onion.

I think I might have posted this before.
We make tacos with onion, cilantro, beans, and guacamole.

Lil' J is eating quinoa, with lima beans, okra, and corn.
He doesn't even know about mac and cheese.

This potato leek soup (made with soy milk) with cabbage, green beans and corn.

A pear, pecan, capers, and a little blue cheese tart.
I got fancy one night.

Pretty much we try to eat simple food with lots of veggies, nuts, and fruit. I enjoy cooking. I like to challenge myself by using just want is on hand...and rarely with a recipe or plan.

And that is our diet.

Trying for 10

Jason and I are trying to get in 10 miles of running a week. My running is typically during my lunch hour. So, 2-3 miles is a pretty good run during that time. I have to account for my driving time, changing, and cleaning up. Geez no one wants a stinky runner in thier office all afternoon. I have to admit...I do stay in my jogging clothes sometimes and shut my door for awile.

Well, at lunch today I needed to run an errand (I went shopping at a thrift store....and hit pay dirt!).

I have been running this week 2 miles here 3 miles here, but not Jason. He ask me to go with him on his run this evening...in the dark. I said I was sore, so I wouldn't be doing too much. I should have known...we put in well over 4 miles (this is a lot for me...don't judge). We just kept running and running. It was good for me~I needed to step it up a little.

He did leave me in the dust most of the time (did I mention he was also pushing the stroller...what a stud!)

Next time I will wear this though...

Got in a good one

I took a day off before we left on a weekend vacation. I had the best run!

I went to Wilson Park for some hills. I timed myself on my first lap. I haven't timed myself in quite awhile.

I SHAVED 2 MINUTES OFF MY TIME!
(sorry to yell, but I was so stinkin' excited)

I ran it at around 9 minutes. I ended up going 4 laps, and needed to go home.

Just so you know...I ran it in my new arm warmers

No running while out of town- BOO. Got a few laps in when we returned.

Still going...

Yep, I'm still going! I'm still trying to get in a run here and there. I stop timing myself. I still love it!

I'm running to just RUN

Today's workout:
15 sets of legs
20 minute run on treadmill- Boo to the rain! I hate the treadmill.
6 sets of hardcore abs...most ab workouts are hardcore for me.

Here is my new gear for the fall/winter runs

ARM WARMERS

I made a pair this evening. I took me a few minutes, no joke, a few minutes. Click here for the DIY link I used.

See you on the trails!

Not so great!

I had a bad run. BOO!
Here are my excuses why...
1) I'll still quite sore from my workout on Saturday. Yep, my booty is sore form doing too many snatches (read previous post).
2) My eating is a little off...just a little. Dang I'm hungry...okay and I've added a glass of wine at night. It has helped with the soreness. Don't judge.
3) My knee bummed during the first mile. I get ticked off, and then lost my drive.

Boo for bad runs!

Woke up early this morning to go for a run...like 6:00 am, and it was too dark for me. Looks like I'll be going tonight. OH how I wish I had an early morning workout partner.

J is heading to hot yoga today. I guess this is where you do yoga in a sauna. J is not a yoga guy...I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Kettlebell Workout

J and I went to a 3 hour kettlebell workout. We learned things like the "snatch" and the "turkish get-up." I'm so dang sore today I'm barely functioning. It was a really good workout. I hit some hotspots in my body that I think have never been used...think inner shoulder blades...stuff like that. It was a full body workout. Because of my soreness I don't think I'll be running for a day too, and this makes me very sad. All in all I learned a lot about form, and I think I will use some of the exercises. He wants us to add 5 or so pushup with it....dang. I'll be lucky to begin with one.

A few more runs...

Jason and I have had some good runs with our toeshoes. Both of us are sore and real tired at night. It is a good workout. It seems to have been a crazy month for parties, celebrations, and such. We need to have a major detox for the weekend.

Soreness

The soreness I'm feeling from the toeshoes is pretty good. I'm sore in my calves and outer thigh. Ran again the next day in them for only about a mile. Ready to run again in them!

First Run with Toe Shoes

Toe Shoes!

I had my first run with the new toe shoes we bought at Pack Rat. I was able to run 3 times around Wilson Park (2.7 miles). I took a slow pace, with my first mile being right at 10 minutes. I tried to keep really nice form, and not stop. I kept my mind on my run, but pumped up the music to Regina Spektor. My knee feels really good! I have lost 10 pounds so far...since getting really serious. I feel good and I'm really proud of myself!
I'll try to get J to post, too. He ran in his once and really liked it.

Our next workout challenge is a kettlebell class. It is three house long! Robin may pass out...and Jason will make it through! What a stud!
